The mission of this website is to empower people with mobility issues to get out, explore, have fun and to not let their disabilities stop them from enjoying life to its fullest. My husband and I both have mobility issues and we plan to pass along the information that we find in our travels to you!
My husband, Jim, and I live in Eastern Tennessee with our two mostly grown daughters. They are both heading off on their own adventures of moving away from home to go to college next year. We will be empty nesters and we plan to put that freedom to good use! Jim and I both grew up camping at the beach and in the mountains at the lakes and rivers. We were both very active and involved in sports. Our girls were raised the same way. Over the course of our lives injuries have put us both in a situation where we can either sit at home and complain about our inabilities or we can go out and live our lives the best we can. There are still too many places we want to see and things we want to do for it to be the former.
When we first got the idea for this website it was more about camping as a handicapped person. We will still have a whole section dedicated to that under the heading “HandiCamping”! It will have advice on setting up camp (no tent camping for us anymore), getting a camper level, secured, hooking up water, sewer and electric. We will talk about tips and tricks, and devices to help.
Then we started fleshing out what all we wanted the website to do and say. We want it to give people with all types of mobility issues the confidence to know what they can expect when they go somewhere.
We will have separate headings for each state we have visited or plan to visit and even information on European destinations! We know that everyone will have their own stories to tell and we welcome you to add your thoughts and share your experiences. You can expect to see pictures and maybe even some videos of our adventures! If you have a suggestion of a place for us to visit, please send us an email at adventuresinhandicapping@gmail.com!
