While this is not an “attraction” there are many things to see and do in Charleston. We have been twice as my daughter is interested in attending the school there. We went to do a tour of the college, but the sidewalks are narrow and many streets are still cobblestone making for a bumpy ride in a chair! It was difficult to get around in the downtown area in a wheelchair.
The downtown area prides itself on being a historical landmark, and it really it a sight to behold. I looked into going on one of the horse drawn carriage tour rides but I would not have been able to get up the steps to get into the carriage. I wish I could have found a bus or trolley tour that was handicap accessible.
Parking, especially handicap spots, are difficult to find. From what I could see many of the stores and restaurants did not have steps to gain entrance.

There is a great handicap accessible beach at the end of the row of beach front homes. I believe it was a state park. Parking was free with the handicap placard.
They have wooden slat walkways to get closer to the sand. These don’t go down very far and it is still a considerable walk to actually put your feet in the water.
They do have sand friendly wheel chairs you can borrow at no cost, but my teenage daughter had a hard time pushing me in the sand with it. My husband might have had better luck. Over all it was nice to have a beach that was not crowded with great parking! We have been twice now.

One time my husband and I stayed at a hotel that was a small boutique hotel that I could swear said was handicap accessible when I made the reservation. The hotel was well maintained and the view was beautiful. The bathrooms were not wheelchair assessable and I could barely get in the front door or elevator. The parking was limited and difficult to turn around. Having the hitch on the back of our car for my power chair blocked cars being about to get in and out of the driveway.
Another time my daughter and I went for another college tour. We stayed at Sun N Sand Resort. This one was much more accommodatable for wheelchairs. The lobby, elevators and hallways were wide and spacious. There was plenty of parking in the attached garage. The room itself was large enough to not feel crowded with my chair and the bathroom was large enough to have room for it as well.
Downtown Myrtle Beach was accessible and pleasant. Defiantly had a “boardwalk” vibe with little tourist shops, rides, and games. Thre are many restaurants, both in town and along the water front that accommodate wheelchairs. Next time we go I want to check out the mall with carnival rides!
I was not able to locate a wheelchair accessible beach in the area, but the views are great from just about anywhere.
